Outreach and Community Services
The members of this congregation strive to serve those in need in the community at large. You are invited to use and support our various ministries with your time, talent, and suggestions.
Community Use of Facilities ~ Our facilities are available for use by many community and local service organizations for their activities and meetings. Such groups include AARP, local garden clubs, and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). These groups rent our facilities at a very modest rate and provide their activities to the whole community, regardless of the religious affiliation of their membership.
Local Organizations ~ Our congregation supports several well established local organizations, all of which provide for the physical or emotional needs of people in our community.
We have a delivery route with Meal on Wheels that supplies hot, nutritious food to those who might otherwise miss meals. When Habitat for Humanity is building a home, we provide our support through hands-on labor or lunches for the workers.
We are proud that the Hospice of Laurens County, Inc. was founded in our church by members of our Church. The organization soon outgrew the space we were able to provide, but we still remain active through the volunteers in our congregation.
Our congregation joins with others in the community in support of the food pantry at the local Salvation Army. Those who are able to contribute to this organization can bring their donations of canned food or clothing to the Church.
World Mission Offering ~ We support missions locally, nationally and internationally. During witness season months -- January through March -- we receive offerings for missionary support. On Easter, we receive One Great Hour of Sharing offering to help share the pain and sorrow of a world in need. Joy Gift is received in December, half of which goes to retired church servants and the balance to support colleges in covenant with the Presbyterian Church and eight racially ethnic schools. We also support Presbyterian homes in Quitman, Austell, and Swainsboro, GA, with an offering taken on Mother's Day. Other offerings are taken during times of great distress and special causes.
